New Year Reflections From Our CEO
Happy New Year! SHC is celebrating a huge milestone in 2023—our 30th Anniversary. For 30 years, our organization has been serving our most vulnerable neighbors in the Charlotte Mecklenburg community.
When we look back at the history of SHC, what started out as two churches coming together to serve our homeless neighbors by providing affordable housing has today turned into a valuable and dependable resource for affordable housing and supportive services for thousands of individuals and families through the many programs offered by SHC.
We could not have done this without the support of neighbors like you: our volunteers, government officials, corporate partners, faith-based partners, and the many individuals who give their time, talent, and treasure. On behalf of our neighbors THANK YOU!
While we celebrate 30 years, there is still so much work to be done. The effects of the pandemic caused the number of individuals experiencing homelessness to rise. Coupled with that inflation has forced even more families into greater need. As of November 2022, there are over 3,000 people who are experiencing housing insecurities and are homeless. With the increased costs for bare essentials such as housing and food, even neighbors like us who are fully employed, are experiencing hardships.
Over the next year, we will celebrate our successes, and continue to be resilient in finding and providing more affordable housing, supportive services, and ensuring that our neighbors have all the tools needed to remain stable and independently housed.
One of the easiest things you can do right now to celebrate our success with us is to become a monthly donor. Join in the celebration by becoming a monthly donor for $30 in honor of our anniversary – your ongoing commitment will ensure we reach all those in need.
Thank you for celebrating with us,
Laura Caldwell,
President & CEO
